A Promise (March 1, 2010)

Early in the morning no one else is yet at the park.  But the world is gloriously alive!  Birds send their songs from every direction near and far, creating a symphony of quiet splendor.  The sun comes up from behind the trees, its blinding reflection transversing the pond, end to end.  No canopy covers me but the endless blue sky.
Although trees are still bare from winter's stripping, their limbs reach up without apology.  They wait patiently for buds of spring.  And I am strengthened in hope, silently celebrating the promise of spring.  Easter's triumph is coming!
Now let the heavens be joyful!  Let earth her song begin!
Let the round world keep triumph, and all that is therein!
Let all things seen and unseen their notes in gladness blend,
for Christ the Lord hath risen, our joy that hath no end.

"The Day of Resurrection," trans. John Neale, 1862

Psalm 103:1, 4-5, "Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name.... Who redeems your life from the pit; Who crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion; Who satisfies your years with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle."
