Good Trees and Good Fruit  (February 8, 2010)

This grandson loved his pappy.  He shared several memories, descriptive of the sweetness that his pappy brought to his life.  One Christmas when the grandson was a young boy, Pappy spent time in his shop.  He made a wooden Christmas tree, painted it green, and then lovingly tied Juicy Fruit gum and money on each limb.  That was his gift to this grandson.  And now the grandson, grown and with a family of his own, identifies that tree from Pappy as an example of his Pappy's life.  Pappy was a tree bearing good, sweet fruit.
At Pappy's funeral today, this grandson honored his pappy and the Lord by retelling beautiful, uplifting memories.  Those of us at the funeral were touched by a dual witness of faith.  Pappy's witness continues to speak life to us, even after his death.  And the grandson is proof that 'the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.'  Thank you, Chris, for your reminders.  The fruit of our lives and the seeds we sow will make a difference in generations to come.  May we live and bear good fruit!

Matthew 7:17, "Even so, every good tree bears good fruit..."
